Erik B. Peterson, AIA, NCARB
President/Architect
Erik is a licensed Architect in the states of Arizona, Idaho, Hawaii, Texas and California, and is certified by the National Council of Architectural Registrations Board (NCARB), with a Bachelor of Architecture degree from Iowa State University, and a Master of Science in Architecture from Arizona State University. As part of his undergraduate studies he participated in the foreign design studios in Rome, Italy, and upon graduation he took a seven month internship at the acclaimed London firm of Terry Farrell Architects.
Erik moved to Arizona in 1994 to complete his masters, and while interning at Taliesin Architects worked as a Junior Project Captain on an original Frank Lloyd Wright design: The Monona Terrace Convention Center in Madison, Wisconsin. Erik also had the opportunity to apprentice under architect Bing Hu, AIA joining his firm, H&S International, where Erik began his career in earnest. Over an eight year period Erik held the titles of Project Manager, Project Architect, and Principal where he managed diverse and award winning projects through out the west, Hawaii and the far East. His projects included fifteen custom residential homes from 6,000sf to 13,000sf in Desert Mountain, Desert Highlands, Paradise Valley and DC Ranch; three Clubhouses for Desert Mountain; over thirty patio home designs for Querencia in Cabo San Juan; and over one hundred developer homes for Desert Mountain. While at H&S, his projects won four Gold Nugget Awards, a Mame Award, a Masonry Guild Citation Award, a Best in American Living Award, and featured on a 2002 AIA home tour.
In October of 2002 Erik founded his own practice, Peterson Architecture & Associates. And in spring 2003 the local AIA chapter named Erik as their Young Gun Architect (an architect licensed 10 years or less) who exemplifies great potential in the profession. Currently, Erik manages a team of twenty-five, working on a variety of high-end custom and developer residential and luxury commercial design; notable projects include the design of The Ritz-Carlton Resort & Residences, Paradise Valley, JW Marriott’s Camelback Inn Resort Addition, Paradise Valley, Desert Highlands Community Master Plan & Tennis Center, Wickenburg Ranch Clubhouse and Facilities, PGA West Stadium Clubhouse Remodel, La Quinta, California, and Seven Canyons Hillside Villas, Range House and Clubhouse in Sedona.
Peterson has guided his firm to continued success, with numerous achievements. In 2008 Ranking Arizona Publication ranked Peterson Architecture & Associates Third among Arizona’s A-List Architectural firms. Many projects have been featured in publications including the Scottsdale Republic, Arizona Foothills Magazine, Arizona Republic, AZ Style, Desert Style and Design-Build Business. Erik continues to engage in projects that are unique and challenging, identifying endless possibilities.
Erik and his wife have two children and make their home in Scottsdale, AZ. When not designing Erik enjoys listening to opera and classical music, his favorites being Mozart and Puccini, enjoying a glass of wine with friends and family, and travel.
